Behaviours of Concern

A behaviour of concern is a behaviour that may place a person or others at risk, or impact their wellbeing, relationships and participation in everyday life.

At Autism Abilities, we believe all behaviour is communication. Rather than focusing only on the behaviour we can see, we look at what may be happening for the person and what they may be trying to communicate.

Our Positive Behaviour Support practitioners work alongside the person, their family and support network to understand why the behaviour is occurring and what support is needed.

By understanding the person behind the behaviour, we can develop practical, evidence-informed strategies that build skills, support communication and regulation, reduce restrictions and improve quality of life.

What are behaviours of concern?

Behaviours of concern are behaviours that may place a person or others at risk, impact learning, relationships or participant in the community, or result in limited opportunities. They are a way of communicating that a need it not being met.

Why might these behaviours occur?

There are many reasons a person may engage in behaviours of concern, including

How we can help
